China opposed the G7 statement because of comments on the South China Sea
Almaty. May 29. Silkroadnews – Beijing expressed concern over the G-7 communique adopted at the end of the summit, Russian media reported.
“China’s opposition was caused by paragraphs regarding situation in the South China and East China Seas. The final communique states G7 members intend to continue to adhere to the statutory provisions regarding the South China and East China Seas”, the publications say.
China’s Foreign Ministry responded that Beijing's position on this issue has not changed and the country intends to continue to resolve disputes in due course and ensure stability and security in the region through the direct negotiations with interested parties.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry urged the G-7 countries to fulfill their promise not to side with any party to the dispute, stop making irresponsible statements and respect the steps taken by the countries involved.
The summit of the Group of Seven (the US, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Canada, France, Japan) was held in Italy on May 26-27. At the end of the summit, the leaders of the countries signed a communiqué in which they condemned terrorism and called to “double the efforts to turn words on the fight against terrorism into the real actions”. Regarding sanctions against Russia, the world leaders concluded it would depend on Moscow’s implementation of the Minsk agreements. The G7 leaders also coincided in their opinions on the policy issues regarding the DPRK and Syria.
With this the efforts undertaken during the talks to convince the US President Donald Trump not to leave the Paris agreement on climate failed, the media noted.
