Beijing. June 7. Silkroadnews - China, the world’s largest car market, will phase out production and sale of cars with petrol and diesel engines in the near future, which, according to the experts, will give impetus to the development of the new energy types vehicles sector, China Daily writes.
According to Sun Fengchun, vice-president of the Beijing Institute of Technology, “vehicle fumes account for over 80 percent of the country's emissions of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons, and 90 percent of nitrogen oxide and particulate matter emissions. The rapid development and popularization of new energy cars and the economically viable and socially beneficial solutions they offer mean it's only a matter of time before they fully replace fossil fuel cars.”
Figures published by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers show, sales of new energy vehicles exceeded 777,000 in 2016, an increase of more than 50% year-on-year.
In addition, in September, the PRC government introduced a policy that requires automakers to produce energy vehicles and gradually reduce the number of cars operating using traditional fuels starting from next year. Last June, the National Development and Reform Commission announced that it would not approve any new automobile projects that would use traditional fuels and would promote the development of vehicles for new types of energy.
In October, Chongqing Changan Automobile Co announced that it will stop selling conventional cars by 2025, but will continue to manufacture hybrids. Meanwhile, in December, the Beijing Automobile Group announced that by 2020 it would refuse to sell its cars with a traditional engine in Beijing, and would cease production and sales nationwide by 2025 as part of its new electric vehicle campaign.
