Beijing. March 15. Silkroadnews - China has denied Canada’s accusations that it is flooding the world markets with cheap steel, saying the overproduction in the industry is an international problem, Richmond News reports.
On Monday Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that Canada is “very concerned” about China’s actions and his country has already taken steps to prevent dumping.
In turn, the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China Lu Kang said Beijing “has taken practical measures to overcome overproduction in the steel industry.”
“We hope that all steel-producing countries can make concerted efforts to reduce the capacity of the steel industry. This calls for international cooperation,” Lu said.
Canada accused China against the background of growing global tension in trade, after the decision by the U.S. President Donald Trump to impose high tariffs on imported steel and aluminum.
Mexico and Canada, which is the leading supplier of steel and aluminum to the US market, have been temporarily exempted from the tariffs until trilateral negotiations on continental trade are completed.
China is Canada’s second largest trading partner after the United States.
