Almaty. December 29. Silkroadnews – China’s BeiDou will be integrated with the European navigation system in the near future, Global Times reported
“China's domestic navigation system has been gaining international recognition and use in the past five years and will integrate with Europe's Galileo satellites in the near-future,” the report said.
It is noted that China is working to ensure that BeiDou is used by the International Civil Aviation Organization and other international systems, said Peng Siyi, the head of the planning department of the Ministry of Transport.
“I am optimistic BeiDou will eventually be compatible with all other positioning systems, but it still has a long way to go to cover the entire globe,” he is quoted saying.
BeiDou, reportedly, coordinates its activities with the navigation satellites of the European space agency Galileo, and in November, China and the United States signed a statement of compatibility and interoperability between BeiDou and GPS. In 2015, BeiDou achieved compatibility and interoperability with the Global Navigation Satellite System of Russia (GLONASS). BeiDou has high accuracy of navigation and positioning in the Asia-Pacific region, while in other regions of the world users can choose other systems.
According to the publication, in the future BeiDou will be compatible with all other navigation systems. It has already been recognized by the International Maritime Organization and the International Satellite Search and Rescue System.
Over the past five years, China has sold more than 50 million domestic navigation chips BeiDou. Their size was reduced from 0.35 micrometer to 28 nanometers, and the cheapest were sold at 6 yuan ($0.9).
