China’s consumer price index rose 1.9% in June
Beijing. Jul 12. Silkroadnews - China’s consumer price index (CPI), the main indicator of inflation, rose 1.9% in June year on year, compared with 1.8% in May, Sina.com writes referring to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
In monthly terms, the consumer price index fell 0.1%.
Lower prices for fresh fruit and vegetables, driven by abundant supply, have been the main reason for the decline in the CPI from May.
Prices for food decreased 0.8% in monthly terms and grew only 0.3% in annual terms.
The price of pork fell 12.8% year on year, which led to 0.32 percentage points decline in the consumer price index. On a monthly basis, it increased 1.1% after a three-month decline.
Prices for non-food products increased 2.2% compared to the same period of last year and by 0.1% from May.
China seeks to maintain CPI’s annual growth rate at around 3% this year.
The producer price index, which measures the costs for goods at the factory gate, grew 4.7% year on year in June, reaching a six-month high.
