Almaty. 18 August. Silkroadnews – China’s government provided a $1-million humanitarian aid to Sierra Leone suffered heavy floods and mud-rock flows, People’s Daily reported.
According to information from Freetown, on Wednesday the PRC Embassy in Sierra Leone reported on floods and mud-rock flows in the capital of Sierra Leone and the surrounding areas caused by heavy rains on Monday. Given the urgent need of Sierra Leone for aid on rescue works, the Chinese government decided to provide the country with humanitarian financial assistance in the amount of $1 million, the report said.
Representatives of local Chinese enterprises and Chinese immigrants donated to the authorities of Sierra Leone more than $80,000 and over 100 million leone, as well as basic necessities as food, drinking water, medicines and clothing.
The disaster left 331 people died, including 111 men, 98 women and 122 children; at least three thousand people lost their homes.
