China’s media warned communists of religiosity and superstition

Almaty. 12 October. Silkroadnews - Chinese state SMI warned communists of religiousness and superstition, the Channel News Asia portal reported.
“China’s top newspaper warned Communist Party officials on Thursday (Oct 12) not to "pray to God and worship Buddha", because communism is about atheism and superstition is at the root of many corrupt officials who fall from grace,” the report says.
It is noted that China officially guarantees freedom of religion for the major belief systems, such as Christianity, Buddhism and Islam, but party members should be atheists and especially refrain from such superstitious practices as visiting soothsayers.
As the newspaper “People’s Daily” reported, over the past few years, there have been enough cases when corrupt officials were also adherents of “medieval superstitions.”
As an example, the newspaper points to the story of Li Chuncheng, the former deputy party leader of Sichuan Province, sentenced to 13 years in prison for a bribe, who was an ardent adherent to the Feng Shui practice. There is also an example of the former China’s security chief Zhou Yongkang jailed for life accused of disclosing state secrets to a fortuneteller named Cao Yongzheng, known as the Xinjiang sage.
The founder of modern China, Mao Zedong, banned fortune telling and superstition in communist China after the 1949 revolution, but occultism returned after the atheistic country began economic reforms and became more open in the late 1970s.
“People’s Daily” reminds, the officials should remember the guiding words of Karl Marx that “communism begins from the outset with atheism.”
