Almaty. December 29. Silkroadnews - China’s Ministry of Commerce disappointed with European Commission decision to launch a probe into Chinese exporters of electronic bicycles, Reuters reported.
“China’s commerce ministry said it is disappointed at the European Commission’s decision to launch a probe into Chinese exporters of electronic bicycles, adding that Europe misunderstands the Chinese market,” the report said.
The agency reminds, on December 21 the European Commission began to investigate the extent in which the Chinese exporters of electronic bicycles proved to be benefited from excessive state subsidies. The investigation is the latest in a string of European probes into Chinese exports ranging from solar panels to steel.
The Chinese market of electronic bicycles is completely regulated by the market economy, said ministry spokesman Gao Feng.
Reportedly, the European Bicycle Manufacturing Association wants the European Commission to impose duties on Chinese electronic bicycles.
“China hopes the European Union will respect the World Trade Organization rules,” Gao said.
Europeans buy about 20 million bicycles a year, of which about 10% are now electronic bicycles, and this figure can grow to 25% within the next five years.
As of September 30, 2017, this year, Chinese manufacturers, including Battle-Fushida, Aima and Tianjin Golden Wheel, sold e-bikes worth some 307 million euros in the EU.
