China’s regulatory authorities fined Tencent, Baidu, Alibaba for fake news release

Almaty. September 27. Silkroadnews – China’s regulatory authorities fined Tencent, Baidu, Alibaba for fake news release, The Australian reported.
“Chinese internet regulators have hit operators of three of the country’s biggest social media platforms with the maximum fine allowable under a new cybersecurity law for hosting fake news, pornography and other forms of banned content,” the report reads.
At the same time, it is noted that the regulating authorities did not announce specific amounts of fines imposed on three Chinese Internet giants: Tencent, Baidu and Alibaba.
The publication reports, the law on cybersecurity says that network operators are subject to a fine of up to 500,000 yuan ($95,200), suspension of activities or revocation of a license in case the transmission of prohibited content cannot be stopped.
It is reported that the popular WeChat application, owned by Tencent, could not stop the posting of prohibited content by users of public accounts. The Teiba Baidu search system and the Twitter-like microblogging service Weibo, partly owned by Alibaba, also could not prevent their users from spreading damaging information.
Tencent stated that it sincerely accepted the punishment and would improve its management of WeChat in accordance with government recommendations.
Baidu apologized to users and promised to fix any problems. Weibo did not comment on the situation.
