Almaty. October 13. Silkroadnews - China’s two thousand richest people own $2.6 trillion capital, the South China Morning Post reported.
“The wealth effects of the nation’s growth have had profound effects among the upper echelon, as a group of 2,130 individuals now have fortunes equivalent to the economy of the UK, according to the Hurun Report’s 2017 rich list,” the publication reads.
Last year there were 2056 Chinese citizens on the list. This year, at least 74 people joined the group with fortunes of $300 million, bringing the total amount of their assets to $2.6 trillion, which is an equivalent to the GDP of the UK, the world’s fifth largest economy.
The list itself has also undergone significant changes.
“Xu Jiayin, chairman of real estate developer Evergrande Group, has emerged as China’s richest man with assets worth US$43 billion. Last year’s leader, Wang Jianlin, dropped to fifth after declines in the share price of his embattled Wanda Group saw his family’s net worth slump 28 per cent to US$23 billion,” the report said.
It is noted that Evergrande is China’s largest group of real estate companies. Since the beginning of the year, the price of its shares in Hong Kong has grown by 465%.
Pony Ma Huaten, founder and CEO of Tencent, ranked the second on the rich list with a fortune of $37 billion, outrunning Alibaba executive chairman Jack Ma at $30 billion.
The fourth on the list is China’s richest woman, Yang Huiyan, vice chairman and the largest shareholder of the development company Country Garden with her fortune exceeding $24 billion.
It is reported that of 2,130 individuals with assets above $300 million, 43 came from Alibaba and its affiliated Ant Financial.
