Beijing. February 19. Silkroadnews - China strongly opposes the visit by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a disputed territory, urging the Indian side not to take steps that could complicate the border issue, the “People’s Daily” newspaper reported.
“The Chinese government has never recognized the so-called Arunachal Pradesh and is firmly opposed to the Indian leader’s visit to the disputed area,” the agency cited quotation by China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang.
With this he noted that China and India have reached important consensus and work together to resolve territorial disputes through the negotiations and consultations.
“The Chinese side urges the Indian side to honor its commitment and abide by the relevant consensus, and refrain from taking any action that may complicate the boundary question,” Geng said.
Arunachal Pradesh is a disputed territory that India considers as its territory, while China believes is its territories in Tibet under illegal occupation by India.
In 1914, the British colonialists attempted to add these territories to India. None of the Chinese governments have ever recognized India’s right to this territory.
“In February 1987, Indian authorities declared the founding of so-called Arunachal Pradesh,” the report reads.
