China suspended import of coal from North Korea

Almaty. December 13. Silkroadnews – China temporarily suspended the import of coal from North Korea, the newspaper “People’s Daily” reported.

“On December 10 Ministry of Commerce announced that according to resolution 2321 of the UN Security Council, on the basis of “The Law of the People’s Republic of China on Foreign Trade” the coal imports from North Korea will be temporarily suspended”, the publication says.

The product that has already been delivered to the Chinese port can be shipped further. The suspension came into force on December 11 and is valid till the end of the year.

The UN Security Council resolution demands North Korea not to exceed the upper limit of the annual coal exports set at $400.9 million (or 750 million tonnes), it starts on January 1, 2017. The resolution also introduces a ban on the export of copper, nickel, silver, zinc and other metals from North Korea, these products brought the country an additional revenue of $100 million per year.
