Almaty. July 20. Silkroadnews – China to become a world leader in artificial intelligence field by 2025, Reuters reports.
“China unveiled a national artificial intelligence (AI) development plan on Thursday, laying out its ambitions to build world-leading technology amid heightened international friction over applications of AI in military technology”, the report said on Thursday.
It is noted that according to the plan of China, its AI industries are estimated to exceed 150 billion yuan ($22.15 billion) by 2020 and 400 billion yuan ($59.07 billion) by 2025.
It is reported that China is trying to catch up with the world leaders by rectifying existing issues including a lack of high-end computer chips and equipment, software and trained personnel. It is planned to actively strengthen the links between private firms, research institutes and military structures for cooperation in the AI development field. The role of the government is reported to increase in guiding of AI development, support of policies and market regulation, as well as development of assessments and control of AI safety.  
It is noted that China has already begun to invest heavily in artificial intelligence technologies, including a combination of private initiatives and public-private partnership. Several leading Chinese companies, including Baidu Inc and Tencent Holdings Ltd, have already established research bases in the United States. In the annual report laying out the most important priorities of the country’s leadership for this year Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang called AI a strategic technology.
