Almaty. January 22. Silkroadnews - China is to build high-speed rail over 7 thousand km from Beijing to Moscow through Kazakhstan worth $242 billion, reported Bloomberg.
According to the city government of Beijing, the railway will facilitate the movement of people and goods to Europe and Asia. The trip from Beijing to Moscow will take "two days". The route will pass through Kazakhstan.
Construction of the railway line is planned when the Russian economy is struggling to recover from the fall in oil prices and against the background of deteriorating relations with the United States and Europe because of the conflict in Ukraine, while China is trying to bring its high-speed rail technology to the international level.
Construction of the railway line was discussed in November, after Russia and China last year agreed to a deal for the supply of natural gas. First Vice-President of JSC "Russian Railways" Alexander Misharin said in an interview, that the project will cost $60 billion to Russia's borders and reduce the travel in the direction of Beijing-Moscow from five days to 30 hours. According to him, the construction of the railway line towards Beijing would take 8-10 years.
