Beijing. Jul 11. Silkroadnews - China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) is building a new Central Business District 50 kilometers from Cairo, Xinhua reports.
The new capital, as assumed, will be one of the solutions to the problem of overpopulation in Cairo, where more than 20 million people live.
The project is designed to create thousands of jobs and stimulate the economy. It is reported that government agencies in Egypt plan to move to the new capital in the second half of 2019.
Currently, dozens of Chinese and Egyptians are surveying the geological conditions of the construction site, preparing statistics for architects on the design of 20 residential, administrative, commercial and service towers that will be located on an area of 1.7 million square meters.
Among them, one of the most interesting objects is a 385-meter skyscraper, which according to the representative of Egyptian President Bassam Rady, will be the tallest building in Africa.
Chang Weicai, chief executive officer of the CSCEC Egypt company, said the construction works are expected to be completed within a maximum of 3.5 years.
He noted that the construction work will begin in a few months after the exploration, adding that more than 90% of workers will be hired on site in accordance with the requirements of local legislation.
The initiative was proposed by China in 2013 and is aimed at building a trade and infrastructure network connecting Asia with Europe and Africa on and beyond the ancient Silk Road trade routes.
Diaa Helmy, secretary general of the Cairo-based Egyptian-Chinese Commerce Chamber, believes that the new capital will provide good opportunities for other leading Chinese companies in terms of building bridges and tunnels that will become part of the new capital, and will also bring fruitful mutual cooperation in the field of smart cities, digital technologies and renewable energy sources needed in the new capital.
