China to launch a payment acceptance technology based on the payer’s face recognition

Almaty. May 23. Silkroadnews – “Ant Financial” company plans to launch a new type of payments, using a new biometric technology of human face recognition, in China, TASS reported with reference to the Chinese media.
“Thus far the pilot project has been completed, and in the near future the working will be applied practically”, Chen Jidong, the company’s project head, said.
According to him, to pay for the purchase the consumer will only need to let the seller to scan his/her face and enter the last four digits of his/her mobile phone number. To eliminate fraud, the recognition program should make sure the money is transferred by a living person, and not by intruders using a photo or video.
Therefore, a person wishing to use this way of payment will be offered to frown, blink or simply move one’s head, which would allow the recognition machine carrying out an analysis for further authorization of transaction.
The designers did not specify the exact date of the new technology’s introduction in the Chinese market, however, according to the agency, the technology has already been approved by the authorities and was even included in list of 10 most unique innovations of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China.
