Beijing. March 7. Silkroadnews - China warned Taiwan it will never tolerate any separatism against the backdrop of tension between the mainland and the self-regulating island, Channel NewsAsia reported.
Beijing will continue to adhere to its principle of “one-China” and promote the peaceful development of relations between the two sides as provided by the 1992 agreement saying there is only one China.
Beijing will also promote the country’s peaceful reunification.
Reportedly, China still considers Taiwan as a part of its territory awaiting reunification. It has cut off official communications with Taipei, as President Tsai Ing-wen refuses to recognize the democratic island as a part of “one China”.
China expressed its indignation last week after the US Senate passed a bill to encourage travel between Washington and Taipei “at all levels.”
Washington cut official diplomatic relations with Taiwan in 1979, recognizing the leaders of the PRC as the only legitimate government of the one China. However, Washington adheres to double standards, maintaining trade relations with Taipei and selling weapons to it.
