China will reform the armed forces by 2020

Almaty. May 13. Silkroadnews – The government plans to complete the reform of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army by 2020, the principal provisions of the five-year plan on the country’s armed forces development published by the Central Military Commission state, TASS writes.

According to the document, in next five years the major indicators of the armed forces progress are to grow significantly along with rapid growth of core combat capabilities and optimization of the general development structure.

By the end of the five-year plan the country’s military authorities plan to complete optimization of the organizational structure of the armed forces and their mechanization, as well as to raise the troops informational support level.
In addition, by 2020 the PLA shall have the effective mobilization mechanisms, modern logistics and supply services set. The document’s authors also assign the objective to improve the system of training and combat training of troops.

In November 2015 Chinese President Xi Jinping announced the PLA upcoming large-scale reforms. It was stated that in addition to reduction of the armed forces by 300 thousand military personnel (to 2 million troops), the conversion was also to affect the PLA’s organizational structure.
