China will use the artificial islands in the South China Sea for peaceful purposes

Almaty. June 1. Silkroadnews - China intends to use the built artificial islands in the South China Sea in the interest of the global public and for peaceful purposes, informed the newspaper "Kommersant".
"Islands are built with the purpose that international community could lead on them their activities. It is planned that on the islands will be performed the work of meteorologists and oceanographers in the interest of the UN",- said the publication with reference to the deputy chief of the General Staff of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Sun Jianguo.
"Spratly Islands" - locate in the southwestern part of the South China Sea. They are claimed by Vietnam, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, the Philippines and Brunei. The archipelago is important both from a geopolitical and economic point of view: there is supposedly concentrated large reserves of oil and natural gas.
