Chinese company to build a part of North-South highway in the Afghan province of Bamyan

Almaty. January 10. Silkroadnews – The Afghan government signed an agreement with China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) on construction of 178 km North-South road project, Afghan news agency (AfTAG) informs.

The road will pass through the central highlands of Hazarajat Plateau and will be built from Dara-e-Sof in Samangan to Yakawlang in Bamyan.

The road project major objective is to build the transport North-South corridor through the central region. The $205 million project will be financed by the Asian Development Bank.

As a part of this project the 178 km road Dara-e-Sof–Yakawlang is planned to take 3.5 years. The roadway platform width will be 7 meters wide. This is a complex technical project that includes construction of eight major and 194 small bridges.

The first 97 kilometers part of the North-South road from Marzar-i-Sharif to Dara-e-Sof has already been built, that is Dara-e-Sof–Yakawlang part becomes the second stage to be followed by the third 550 km long section Yakawlang to Daykundi and then to Uruzgan and Kandahar. Development of the third stage projects will begin in the near future.
