Beijing. March 20. Silkroadnews - The cost of the two-seater LSEV printed on 3D-printer is expected to be just $9,450, with the car’s maximum speed of 70 km/h and a range of 150km, South China Morning Post reports.
The Italian automaker X Electric Vehicle said it comes close to starting mass production of its low-speed cars 3D-printed cars in China by the second quarter of 2019.
The company claims, it is the world’s first mass-produced 3D-printed electric vehicle, and that it has received 7,000 orders from companies including postal service providers, the report said.
Almost all visible parts of the car, except for windows, tires and chassis, are 3-D printed. The two-seater weighs just 450 kilograms, which is almost half the size of a conventional car.
A single production line - complete with 3D printers and assembly facilities - will be able to handle 500 cars per year.
The cost of production can be reduced as the volume increases, and by 2024 the total costs for the production of such cars will be cut by half.
