Chinese customs seized 600 tonnes of oil for electronic cigarettes

Almaty. August 22. Silkroadnews – China’s customs seized 600 tonnes of oil for electronic cigarettes, China.org.cn portal reported.
“Customs in southern China recently seized 600 tonnes of smuggled electronic cigarette oil, with a total value of 300 million yuan (about 44 million U.S. dollars)”, the report said.
320 police officers were mobilized to arrest members of four groups suspected of e-cigarettes oil smuggling from the U.S., Zhou Bin, the head of Gongbei Customs, responsible for the cities of Zhuhai and Zhongshan, Guangdong Province in South China, said. According to him, four criminal groups were based in Shenzhen and Xiamen and supplied the lion’s share of oil for electronic cigarettes on the Chinese market.
According to the publication, the annual sales of electronic cigarettes have grown more than 300%, yet control over the sector remains weak. Thus, Zhou Bin added, “most of the product sold in China is imported from abroad”.
Following the raid 20 people have been detained. The investigation continues.
