Chinese Huawei won a contract for delivery of radio systems for trains in Western Australia

Beijing. Jul 11. Silkroadnews - After a lengthy consultation, a costly contract for delivery and maintenance of digital radio systems for the Western Australian railway network has been awarded to the Chinese telecommunications company Huawei, Sina.com reports.
“Announced by the State Government on Sunday, the 136-million-Australian dollar (101-million-U.S. dollar) contract with the Public Transport Authority (PTA) will operate as a joint venture with engineering construction company UGL and involve the development of 4G communications systems for voice and data services on Perth City trains,” the report reads.
“Huawei is extending its trusted portfolio of solutions towards industry and strengthening its customer base in mission critical market segments. We are modernizing the Australian transportation sector through digital technologies developed for the global market,” the agency quoted Huawei Australia Chairman John Lord saying.
After the initial installation period has been completed, the contract will be valid for five years with an option to extend for another five years. Huawei has provided similar communications technology for the Sydney rail network, as well as communication for the ambulance system for the state of New South Wales.
