Beijing. February 8. Silkroadnews - Chinese police start using smart glasses to search for and detain wrongdoers, the Global Times reported.
“Police in Central China’s Henan Province used a new type of smart glasses to arrest wrongdoers in the province's railway station,” the report said.
Police at the eastern railway station of Zhengzhou have already arrested seven people suspected of involvement in kidnapping and violent incidents.
Another twenty-six people were arrested for using fake identity cards.
“The facial information captured by the glasses will be sent back to a database for comparison with the information of suspects on the wanted list,” the agency quoted Zhang Xiaolei, a staff member of Henan’s Department of Public Security. Previously, to achieve the same result, several facial images from different angles were needed.
The police have been using the smart glasses at four entrances to the East Railway Station of Zhengzhou in Henan.
About 60,000 passengers pass through the station a day. The number is expected to reach 90,000 a day during the celebration of the Chinese New Year.
This is not the first time when police use smart technology. During the National Holidays in October 2017, policemen on the highway in Lanzhou, Gansu Province in northwest China, were seen wearing a special type of smart glasses called “X-Mars”, which were used to record the law enforcement process.
The police in Anhui Province in East China also used voice recognition and analysis systems to deal with crimes such as telecommunications fraud, drug trafficking and kidnapping. The voice recognition technology could identify a suspect by accent or provide information on gender, height and weight.
