Chinese section of transcontinental expressway is open for traffic

Almaty. November 21. Silkroadnews - The Chinese section of a transcontinental expressway is open for traffic, Xinhua news agency reported.
“The Chinese section of a transcontinental expressway project set to link western China with Western Europe has opened to traffic,” the report said.
A key part of the project, as noted, a 10 km section of the road in the border city of Horgos in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, connecting a quarantine zone with the Lianyungang-Horgos expressway, is already open.
The project with a total length of 8,445 km connects the city of Lianyungang in the province of Jiangsu in eastern China with St. Petersburg in Russia. In 2006 China and Kazakhstan jointly proposed the construction of a transport corridor Western Europe-Western China. The construction of the expressway started in 2008.
