Almaty. September 25. Silkroadnews – A completely robotic dental surgery was conducted in China, Express Newsline reported with reference to the South China Morning Post.
“In China, a robot dentist installed two dental implants for a woman last Saturday, in what could be the world’s first fully automated dental implant surgery. Experts said that the implants were fitted within a margin of error of 0.2-0.3 mm-matching the standards required for this type of procedure,” the report said.
It is explained that before the operation all necessary information was entered into the device and then the surgery was performed after testing the programmed movements. The operation took one hour with medical staff attending. Nevertheless, people did not interfere with the robot’s working. The staff confirmed the robot had implanted the teeth with high precision.
According to the publication, there are about 400 million patients in China who need dental implants, but the number of qualified dentists lags significantly behind the demand. Using robots can help to solve this problem. In recent years, robots have increasingly been used to assist dentists in procedures such as root canal surgery and orthodontic operations, as well as in training students.
