CSTO’s “Channel-South Trap” anti-drug operation enters its final stage in Tajikistan

Dushanbe. May 28. Silkroadnews – “Channel –South Trap” anti-drug operation, commissioned by the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO), enters its final stage in Tajikistan, as the Federal Drug Control Service of Russia informs.
Employees and representatives of anti-terrorism units, national security bodies, internal affairs bodies, financial intelligence, customs and border control services from Tajikistan, Russia, Armenia, Belarus< Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan took part in the special operation. Representatives of the law enforcement bodies of Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan and China took part in the operation as observers.
The main goal of the operation is to combine the regime of military operation with strategic exercises on countering the activities of transnational drug-traffickers, who are using the territory of Afghan Province of Badakhshan to smuggle drugs to the CSTO member countries.
As the Federal Drug Control Service of Russia informs, this operation was preceded by another one. On the 14th of May 2014, Russia and Afghanistan conducted that operation in the northern Afghan province of Badakhshan. As a result of that operation, 5 drug labs have been liquidated, over 300 tonnes of opiates and over 8 tonnes of precursors were confiscated. All of the liquidated labs supplied illicit drug products for transit to Russia.
