Damage by corruption in Kyrgyzstan makes about 15.2 billion som per year

Almaty. February11. Silkroadnews - The State Registration Service (SRS) presented the strategy of the fight against corruption on the basis of IT-technologies, reports KyrTAG.
The head of the SRS Tayirbek Sarpashev noted there are real opportunities existing to fight the corruption schemes with the use of IT-technologies based on simple mathematical calculations.
The registration procedures, according to him, shall be automated to fight against corruption effectively.
“Full automation will also create convenience for citizens using the public services and save their time,” - said T. Sarpashev.
The presentation participants have been shown the World Bank’s recent findings on the corruption. According to the study, the damage from corruption costs each state an average of 5% of its total GDP, in Kyrgyzstan this damage makes about 15.2 billion som per year.
The most corrupted sectors are the law enforcement, public administration, social welfare, health and education making about 84% of the total damage caused by corruption per year and equal to about 12.7 billion som per year in monetary terms.
According to the analysis by the SRS experts, with $24.5 million of investments into the registration procedures system automation the economic efficiency will make more than 500%.   Thus, when investing $24.5 million the benefit amount would be about $132 million.
