De Mistura will not attend Astana meeting of Foreign Ministers of Russia, Turkey and Iran
Beijing. March 16. Silkroadnews - For medical reasons U.N. special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura will not attend the Astana meeting of the foreign ministers of Russia, Turkey and Iran scheduled for March 16, the Kazakh Telegraph Agency (KazTAG) writes with reference to TASS.
According to Michael Contet, acting chief of staff of the office of the United Nations, Ramzy Ezzeldin Ramzy, as the Deputy Special Envoy for Syria, will head the UN delegation in Astana.
As previously reported by the press service of Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry, the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Russia, Turkey and Iran on Syria in Astana will be held on March 16.
Kairat Abdrakhmanov, head of Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry noted, the ministers are working to adopt a joint statement. The document, will probably include the major directions for the Astana process facilitation, including possible terms for the next round of negotiations.
