Decision on construction of nuclear power plants has been postponed for a year in Kazakhstan
Almaty. May 17. Silkroadnews – Kazakhstan has postponed for a year a decision on construction of the nuclear power plants (NPP), KazTAG reports.
“According to the minutes of the meeting of the interdepartmental committee on oil-gas and energy industries development dated April 19, 2016, it was determined to postpone a decision on the construction of nuclear power plants in the Republic of Kazakhstan for a year,” release by the ministry of economy says.
It is said that currently, with the view of environmental legislation requirements, the feasibility studies on the construction of nuclear power plants near the town of Kurchatov, East Kazakhstan region, and Ulken village, Zhambyl district of Almaty region, are under development process.
“The feasibility study may take 2-3 years,” the text says.
It is also reported the analysis of design and performance characteristics of the reactors by the different companies is being carried out at present to determine the reactor technologies matching the republic’s needs the most.
