Election commission of Afghanistan to hold elections on appointed date

Beijing. February, 15. Silkroadnews - The Independent Electoral Commission of Afghanistan (IEC) is working to conduct elections this year and counts on the support of population, political parties and civil society, the IEC chairman Abdul Badi Sayyad said on Wednesday, the Afghan Telegraph Agency (AfTAG) reports.
The Commission is committed to hold transparent elections; the votes of the voters will be safe, whoever wins supported by voters will be declared the winner, and no one’s voice will be betrayed, the IEC chairman emphasized.
Sayyad called on the political parties working in the country to share with the commission their plans and views on the upcoming elections to contribute to the electoral process support.
Earlier it was already reported at the turn of 2017-2018, the protracted personnel rearrangements after resignation of former chairman Najibullah Ahmadzai impeded work of the Electoral Committee, the chairman post remained vacant for more than two months. Having taken the office of the Electoral Commission Head, Sayyad warned the public about possible postponement of elections to the parliament and provincial councils, but now the IEC shows commitment to conduct voting as it was scheduled.
