Almaty. September 19. Silkroadnews – The EU and China intensify their efforts to combat global warming, Bloomberg reports.
“Europe and China are stepping up their coordination in the battle against global warming after the U.S. decided to withdraw from a landmark Paris agreement to cut greenhouse gases, said Frans Timmermans, first vice president of the European Commission,” the report said.
According to Timmermans, the European Union, which includes 28 countries, will continue to make efforts to protect the environment, shifting to a low-carbon economy and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. The EU accounts for about 12% of global emissions, and China – for about 20%.
To achieve its goals of reducing carbon emissions to 20% by 2020 and up to 40% by 2030, the EU has switched to sustainable energy sources. While China is stepping up its fight against air pollution, and the EU is helping the Chinese government to develop a national program for introduction of a quota system and emissions trading, investors are waiting for closer cooperation in the field of clean energy.
Reportedly, the administration of the U.S. President Donald Trump, who called climate change a hoax created by the Chinese, last month began a formal process of exiting from the Paris agreement on climate. The agreement made by 190 countries provides for reduction of fossil fuel emissions.
