Ex-President of Kyrgyzstan Askar Akayev was recommended not to appear in Bishkek by high Russian officials, says lawyer
Almaty. August 6. Silkroadnews - Former President of Kyrgyzstan Askar Akayev was advised not to come to Bishkek from the top echelon of Russian officials, reports KyrTAG referring to the lawyer of Akaev Ikramidin Aitkulov on Wednesday.
"Askar Akayev was already on the way to the airport when he received a call from officials of the Russian Federation and was advised not to go, since they were unable to obtain the security guarantees", - said the lawyer, refusing to give the names of Russian officials.
"The organizing committee in Bishkek earlier also advised not to go, as they were informed that immediately after the funeral, ex-president may be arrested. A. Akayev could not say goodbye to his elder brother, it goes beyond all limits of human morality", - added the lawyer.
"On August 12, 2010 interim goverment signed a decree on depriving Akayev from immunity status. Then I made a request to the prosecutor's office, I was told that at the time of decree there were no criminal cases against Akayev. The decree was signed without reason. Akayev still is not involvved in any criminal cases",- said the lawyer.
As previously reported, on August 3 in Bishkek passed away elder brother of Askar Akayev, Bolot Akayev. It was expected that the ex-president will arrive in Bishkek, but funerals were attended only by his son Ilim.
