Almaty. September 26. Silkroadnews – Face recognition system is being used to fight jaywalking in China, “People’s Daily” wrote.
“Wuhan, capital of central China’s Hubei Province, has joined other cities by installing facial recognition equipment at major intersections to encourage road safety,” the publication reads.
According to the report, at some crossroads photos of pedestrians crossing the road on a red light will immediately appear on the large screen nearby to shame the traffic violators.
The high-resolution violators’ photos will also be sent to the database of the police department of the province to be compared with existing images and identify the jaywalker.
As officials of the Wuhan Road Traffic Management Bureau say, in the near future equipment for face recognition will be used on more roads.
The malicious offenders’ names will be added to the list of the system connected with the credit services of government agencies and banks.
It is noted that the system of face recognition is becoming increasingly common for ATMs and dorms of universities.
