Female poverty and female migration on rise in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek. May 26. Sillkroadnews – Female poverty and female migration are rising every year in Kyrgyzstan. This was reported by Nurgul Asylbekova, the UN Programme coordinator, at the parliamentary hearings on “UN and RK: Partnership for Sustainable Development”.
“Limited access to decision-making process as well as to economic and natural resources is one of the main problems that women face in Kyrgyzstan. It results in rising female poverty and rising migration”, Nurgul Asylbekova said.
“Moreover, violence against women remains prevalent. This includes stealing brides and early marriages”, the expert added.
As research shows, the number of women in municipal councils and public service is also declining in Kyrgyzstan.
