Almaty. December 5. Silkroadnews - Fight against IS continues in cultural and ideological fields, the National Security Council of Iran believes, the Iranian Telegraph Agency (IrTAG) reported referring to Tasnim News Agency.
“Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani warned against the spread of extremist ideology of Daesh (ISIS or ISIL) after its collapse in Iraq and Syria and said the fight against the terrorist group is continuing in cultural, ideological fields,” the report said.
Speaking at a meeting with Sheikh Humam Hamoudi, the head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq and the first deputy speaker of the country’s parliament, in Tehran on Monday, Shamkhani congratulated the Iraqi people and government on the collapse of the self-proclaimed Caliphate of the IS in the Arab country.
“The patience and perseverance of the Iraqi people and the braveries of the country’s army, security and popular forces, especially Hashd al-Shaabi, led to the destruction of the region’s greatest threat (Daesh), despite the discontent of some countries,” the agency quoted him saying.
However, Shamkhani noted the battle against the IS continues in the fields of culture and ideology to eradicate “Daesh-creating thinking”, which is supported by some regional countries.
Sheikh Hamoudi, for his part, highly appreciated the important role of Iran in the fight against terrorist groups in Iraq and throughout the region, and stated that the Iraqis won the recent victories despite economic problems and will continue along the same path with the support of their true allies.
The IS’s militants were advancing rapidly in most of northern and western Iraq in the summer of 2014, seizing large areas of northern Syria.
However, the cooperation of Iraqi military and volunteers, who started to take arms after top Iraqi cleric Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani issued a fatwa calling for a fight against militants, stopped the offensive of terrorists and then forced them to withdraw.
In a tough situation Iran became the first country to help Iraq.
