Almaty. September 8. Silkroadnews – Fine for unsanctioned religious activities in China has been increased up to $46 thousand, according to the South China Morning Post information portal.
“Organizers of unsanctioned religious activities in China face fines of up to 300,000 yuan (US$46,000) under ramped-up regulations due to come into effect early next year”, the report reads.
Earlier the organizers of unauthorized religious events were a subject to fines of up to three times the cost of activities, but as of February, these fines will be within 100,000-300,000-yuan range. Anyone who provides a place for an “illegal religious event” will be forced to pay a fine of between 20,000 yuan and 200,000 yuan. Educational institutions if used for religious activities outside sanctioned religious schools will be deprived of licenses.
“The State Council, China’s cabinet, endorsed revisions to the 2005 Regulation on Religious Affairs on Thursday, ushering in changes that are meant to tighten local controls on faith communities, clamp down on overseas training and eradicate extremism. The changes apply across the spectrum, from Christianity to Buddhism and Islam, and come amid a high-profile push to “sinocise” foreign religious traditions in China,” the report says.
