Almaty. July 11. Silkroadnews – After outbreaks of anthrax it is proposed to reform veterinary system in Kazakhstan, KazTAG reports.

“There were outbreaks of anthrax recently, unfortunately, fatal. This all shows the veterinary issue, unfortunately, has been forgotten and has not been paid due attention to. Even prime minister in his speech said we shall work with     animal burial sites. I think it is an unprecedented case, when the Prime Minister drew attention to such petty things. It requires a big reform of veterinary medicine system,” the head of the Kazakhstani meat union (KMU) Maksut Baktibaev at the union extraordinary meeting on Monday.

He noted that the association has a few suggestions regarding the reforms required.

“First of all, we propose to introduce automated system to trace the whole livestock production process. That is to stop the uncontrolled movement of livestock products and cattle all over Kazakhstan. To automate the recording system,” the head of the union said.

Second, according to him, it is necessary to register ear tags for cattle.

“The question we raise for the fifth year is poor quality of ear-tags. The ear-tags tears easily and then replaced by others and so on. This all creates big problems,” M. Baktibaev said.

“Third question is a control of products at the markets. When people buy products in the meat market, they expect the products they buy to be of high quality and safe. Yet, today’s factors suggest there are great risks and we should strengthen supervision in such public locations like bazaars and markets to prevent the spread of diseases,” he noted.

Outbreaks of anthrax have been reported in four regions of Kazakhstan – Karaganda, Almaty, Pavlodar and East Kazakhstan regions.
