Almaty. November 11. Silkroadnews – For 10 months imports to China through international center of border cooperation “Khorgos” increased by 2.5 times, “Xinhua” agency says.

According to data by the immigration and quarantine control department of Khorgos city, for the first ten months of 2016 3112 tonnes of food, which is 151.5% more than in the same period of last year, were imported through the checkpoint Khorgos in China. Their costs exceeded $4 million, showing an increase of 250.26% on a year-on-year basis. Mainly the imported products include sweets, biscuits, chocolate and wine.

The department officials noted that such significant increase in food imports to China, mainly from Central Asia through the checkpoint Khorgos, explained by the fact that the residents of Xinjiang and Central Asian regions have similar food traditions. Another factor is the higher rate of customs inspection as now Xinjiang began to implement a random inspection of imported food only, whereas previously all the incoming goods were inspected.
