Former Defense Minister Wardak drops out of presidential race in Afghanistan

Kabul. March 17. Silkroadnews – Former Defense Mister of Aghanistan, Abdul Rahim Wardak dropped out of the Presidential race. Following Qayum Karzai’s exit, he is the second candidate to drop out, AfTAG reports. The presidential elections are to be held on the 5th of April.

Mister Wardak informed the public of his decision to drop out during the Press Conference last Sunday. He did not say, who he will support in the race. However, he expressed his hope for open and fair presidential elections, as Xinhua reports.

As reported earlier, the elder brother of current Afghan leader, Qayum Karzai dropped out of the race on the 6th of March to openly support former Foreign Affairs Minister, Zalmay Rasul, in the race. The President later stated that was him, who asked his brother Qayum to drop out.

The candidacy of Zalmay Rasul is also supported by many representatives of international community and is favorite to win the race.
