Former Kyrgyz President Bakiyev sentenced for 25 years in prison for conspiring to kill British citizen

Almaty. April 7. Silkroadnews – Bishkek Court has proven Former Kyrgyz President Bakiyev, his sons and his brother guilty in conspiring to kill a British citizen, Sean Daly, as KyrTAG reports.
The Presiding Judge Kymbat Arharova announced the verdict on the conspiracy to organise a murder of Sean daly, the “Oxus Gold” representative.Former Kyrgyz President Bakiyev has been sentenced for 25 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property. His son Marat Bakiyev, who used to head the State Committee for National Security,  was sentenced for 20 years of imprisonment. The brother of the former President, Zhanysh Bakiyev, who used to head State Security Services and Kurmanbek Bakiyev’s second son, Maxim Bakiyev, both got live-long sentences at the high security prison with confiscation of property.
Charges were filed in absentia.
As reported earlier, President Kurmanbek Bakiyev and his son Maaxim conspired to illegaly get exclusive rights over “Dzheruy” goldmine in 2005. They planned to then sell those rights to the third party.
Licence for exploration and development of that goldmine belonged to “Oxus Gold”, which was represented in Kyrgyzstan by Mister Daly.
“Knowing that Sean Daly can become an obstacle to their conspiracy, Maxim Bakiyev has involved his relatives to execute his father’s order – to commit Sean Daly’s murder”, as court papers state.
The murder was to be committed by an unidentified individual. The attempt to kill Sean Daly took place on the 7th of July 2006, when several gunshots were made. However, due to the emergent medical help he received, Sean Daly managed to survive.
