French film director is shooting a documentary film about Silk Road in Kazakhstan

Almaty. July 20. Silkroadnews – French director, screenwriter and producer Regis Ghezelbash producing a documentary film about the Silk Road in Kazakhstan, KazTAG reported.

“It will be a film about the Silk Road and a part of it will be shot in Kazakhstan. This film is about the balance between Europe and Asia”, director said at the meeting with students in Semey State University named after Shakarim on Wednesday.

According to him, located between Europe and Asia, Kazakhstan, where various ethnic groups and different religions peacefully coexist, – is “the model that confirms the possibility of a multi-ethnic unity to be proposed to all the peoples across the world”. This very task the director sets for new documentary film shooting.

“In Kazakhstan I feel very comfortable and safe. I love this country. It is my honor and pleasure to be here and I dream to share my experience with you,” he emphasized.

As R. Ghezelbash believes, an interest in Kazakhstan is caused by the scale of new project.

“I have a very special and important role for me – to get Europe acquainted with this fascinating country, great heritage of Kazakhstan, its history and culture”, the French guest said.

During his stay in Semey he is going to carry out a number of master classes and workshops with the students in Shakarim State University and will provide an expert assistance to establish an art school on the basis of the university. “My major specialty is a cinema, and the main task is to teach students, future journalists, to create documentary films”, R. Ghezelbash added.

In Kazakhstan R. Ghezelbash is known by the film about the President of Kazakhstan “Ideas changes the world” and by movie “Ulzhan” with Philip Torreton and Ayanat Ksebay starring. His project “The Triplets of Belleville” animated short film was nominated for Oscar.

This is the second visit of the director in Kazakhstan.
