Full Nuclear Fuel cycle to be created in Kazakhstan by 2030

Astana. May 27. Silkroadnews – Full Nuclear Fuel Cycle is to be created in Kazakhstan by 2020. This entails all the stages from uranium conversion to energy production, as Kazakh deputy PM, Minister of Industry and New Technologies, Aset Isekeshev informs.
“Kazakhstan is the top uranium producer in the world. We produced 22 300 tonnes of it in 2013. One of the industry’s main goals which is a priority of Fuel and Energy Complex Development is creation of full nuclear fuel cycle”, the Minister said.
He says that “unfortunately” Kazakhstan has only produced uranium as a raw natural resource as well as non-highly conversed uranium.
He informed that “KazAtomProm” is currently negotiating with foreign companies to acquire necessary technologies to converse, enrich and uranium fuel assembly. Negotiations concerning Nuclear Power Station construction are also taking place.
