Governor of Afghan province of Farah resigned following mass protests

Beijing. January 26. Silkroadnews - The governor of the western Afghan province of Farah Mohammad Arif Shahjahan resigned following mass protests in the province on Wednesday, the Afghan Telegraph Agency (AfTAG) reports.
As the BBC reports, hundreds of people took part in the protest actions related to the worsening security situation in Farah and called on the government of the country to replace the head of the province.  
The governor stressed, he had decided to resign to preserve the unity of the people, the newspaper notes.
Reportedly, the clashes between protesters and security forces in Farah resulted in several stores damaged and at least two police vehicles burnt. And the spokesman for the governor said no casualties and injuries recorded. According to him, the demonstrators were “citizens got involved to protest against provincial authorities.”
Speaking to the reporters, the governor said there were no security incidents in Farah during the last week. Nevertheless, he confirmed, people complained of the disorders.
