Almaty. October 7. Silkroadnews - World consumption of illicit drugs has stabilized and hardly growing, reports the Russian news agency TASS.
"The current system of drug control does not solve all problems, but it helps to keep the threat within certain limits. Of course, we can not be satisfied with the fact that until now it was not possible to reduce the consumption and production of drugs. But according to our reports, the number of people worldwide who use drugs, virtually has no increases. That is, growth is there, but it is proportional to the growth of the world's population",- said the executive director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Yury Fedotov.
He also noted that the production of narcotic drugs adapted to the "market". "If there is a reduction in the production of some types of drugs, such as cocaine, it is often compensated by an injection into the market of other kinds of drugs", - he explains.
According to him, "synthetic drugs are becoming increasingly popular".
According to the head of the CPF, to encourage the Afghan authorities to combat drug trafficking and alternative development programs for farmers may be due to the international leverage.
Fedotov also notes that "Afghanistan remains the world's largest producer of heroin and opium".
