Almaty. August 22. Silkroadnews – Guizhou province banned serving alcohol at official functions, China Daily reported.
“Guizhou government has banned serving of all alcohol at official functions for civil servants effective from Sept 1”, the statement said.
It is reported that the new rules ban civil servants from using public or personal funds to buy alcohol for official receptions, as well as during working hours and at lunch time.
It is noted that the new rules allow for some exceptions. Thus, alcohol consumption is allowed at especially important official receptions and at events aimed at attracting investments. However, in this case, the organizers need to report to competent bodies and disciplinary inspection commissions.
According to the publication, Guizhou province was not the first region to ban alcohol. Such a ban has already been introduced in the provinces of Zhejiang, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Anhui and Xinjiang.
The ban is reportedly aimed at raising awareness of the adverse effects of alcohol on those who perform official duties. In 2013, the Chinese government issued a decree banning expensive delicacies, cigarettes and spirits at official receptions.
