Head of Afghan province’s anti-corruption office has been released from detention
Beijing. June 26. Silkroadnews - Head of the provincial branch of the High Office of Oversight and Anti-Corruption (HOOAC) Mujibullah Sadat has been released from detention in the northern Afghan province of Kunduz, the Afghan Telegraph Agency (AfTAG) reports.
The officer had been abducted in the Imam Sahib district of Kunduz in early May and was released on Saturday after 48 days of captivity. The relatives of Sadat told the kidnappers tortured him and caused injuries.
“Kidnappers have cut four fingers of my father; we paid them ransom for releasing my father. The government did not help us in getting him freed,” the Pajhwok Afghan News agency quoted his son saying.
The governor’s spokesman confirmed the release of the official and noted the security forces had struggled for his release.
According to the news agency, kidnapping cases had become a good a business and lately increased in the province. Most of the abductees were released after payment of ransom. Civil servants, ordinary residents of the province and anyone can be kidnapped for ransom, the local residents say.
