Heads of China and Uzbekistan opened tunnel on Angren-Pap railway

Almaty. June 23. Silkroadnews – On June 22 via teleconference Chinese President Xi Jinping together with the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov attended the ceremony of opening of the tunnel on the railway line Angren-Pap, Chinese media reported.

Xi Jinping has pointed out that tunnel through the Kamchik pass is the key and most difficult stage of the project on construction of Angren-Pap railway. It took three years for China and Uzbekistan to lay the longest railway tunnel in Central Asia. This is an important result of cooperation between China and Uzbekistan on “one belt, one road” initiative.

Islam Karimov has noted the opening of the tunnel at the Angren-Pap is an important event for the social and economic development of Uzbekistan. The project brought significant prosperity to the people of Uzbekistan.

The tunnel on the line Angren-Pap is the largest construction project that Chinese contractors have implemented on the territory of Uzbekistan. This is a project of cooperation on transport and communications interconnection within “one belt, one road” joint implementation.
