Beijing. March 26. Silkroadnews - The leader of the Islamic Party of Afghanistan (Hezb-e-Islami) Gulbuddin Hekmatyar called on the government to create safe zones for the Taliban to induce them to join the peace process, the Afghan Telegraph Agency (AfTAG) reports.
Speaking at a press conference in Kabul, Hekmatyar said he offered to the Afghan government a program of reconciliation, which includes creation of safe zones for the Taliban, the Tolo television channel reported.
He stressed, his offer does not imply the transfer of entire provinces to the Taliban, but is about forming several districts where the leaders of the movement will be able to live with their families without being persecuted.
To remind, the Afghan government presented a roadmap for the reconciliation process. Kabul continues its efforts to engage the Taliban in the peace talks, but the extremist movement representatives still evade taking part in the international conferences on peace process.
