Almaty. September 6. Silkroadnews – Hyundai Motor has suspended production at one of its factories in China, Russian Rosbalt news agency reported.
South Korea’s Hyundai Motor suspended production at one of its factories in China, as a supplier refused to deliver parts because of a delay in payment. This is the second such incident in two weeks, the report said.
The relations with suppliers to the company’s joint venture with BAIC Motor Corp Ltd became a problem for the South Korean manufacturer in China, where sales fell sharply amid diplomatic tensions between the countries.
The joint production of Hyundai and BAIC at four plants in China resumed only on August 30 after a one-week break due to supply problems. That time the French supplier refused to deliver fuel tanks, demanding payment, the publication notes.
According to the report, this time another partner, whose name the company’s representatives did not reveal, refused to supply spare parts for air intake systems. The three other plants of the joint venture in China are operating at full capacity.
As the newspaper notes, South Korean companies have been badly affected by China’s reaction to Seoul’s intention to deploy the U.S. missile defense system to counter the threat from the DPRK. China regards the system as a threat to its own national security.
